Idealist Teachers Issue Guide: Human Rights

Human rights

Our nonprofit database contains over 3,000 human rights organizations from around the world; find the ones nearest you, or the ones doing work that is most relevant to what you're teaching.

Find human rights materials for your lessons

Search Idealist for human rights organizations.

Our resource database will direct you to newsletters, reports, pamphlets, videos, and other information offered by the human rights organizations listed on Idealist.

We've highlighted great online curricula on human rights provided by organizations like the National Peace Corps Association and the United Nations.

Visit our directory of service learning organizations for information on how to start a service learning project about human rights with your students.

Explore resources about the human rights with your students

Idealist Kids & Teens links to youth-oriented websites about human rights like Oxfam International's Cool Planet and Amnesty International Kids.

We've listed organizations that help kids start projects around human rights issues.

Students can learn about Free the Children, The Cello Cries On, and other human rights organizations started by kids.

Volunteering at human rights organizations

Your students can visit our Volunteer Center for students to pinpoint volunteer positions at human rights organizations in their area. Past opportunities offered on Idealist have included being an indigenous rights volunteer for the Wetlands Preserve in New York and writing for PEACEIncorporated in Arkansas.

Both you and your students can sign up for email notification of human rights volunteer opportunities.

You can also learn how to set up a school-wide community service program involving human rights.

Careers in human rights

The Idealist Career Resource Guides are designed to introduce people to various career opportunities available in the nonprofit sector. The guides are oriented towards college students; however, the information can be useful for high school students interested in investigating possible career paths.

The Human Rights Career Guide includes interviews with people who currently work for human rights organizations, examples of human rights jobs, and organizations to contact for more information.
